Visit in connection of Science for Peace and Security Programme
From 9 May to 12 May, 2016 the Mining Institute was visited by Dr Michael Switkes, NATO Science for Peace and Security Programme, SPS Advisor, Mr Jake Tupman, NATO TV Channel reporter and Prof. Theodore Krauthammer, Co-director of the SPS supported project being implemented at the Mining Institute and the Director of the Infrastructure and Physical Security Protection Centre of the University of Florida
The purpose of the visit was to become acquainted with the results of the NATO SPS project “Protection of Underground Structures fromfrom Fuel Cloud Explosion”and produce a video about the project for the NATO television channel.
During the visit, a seminar was held at which Prof. Krauthammer and Prof. Chikhradze made presentations about the ongoing project. Dr Switkes gave a talk about the NATO SPS Programme. Mr Ucha Dzodzuashvili, Director of State Military Scientific-Technical Center “Delta”presented the work done by the organization and the prospects for the application of the results. After the seminar, the guests were invited to the underground experimental tunnel where the performance of the blast protection system designed within the frames of the Programme was demonstrated. The experiment was recorded by the NATO channel representatives. The material will be used for a video to be produced about the project for NATO channel.
